Qatar Provides Nearly $ 1.6 Billion to Alleviate Suffering of Syrian People

The State of Qatar has provided nearly $1.6 billion in order to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people inside and outside Syria, through international humanitarian organizations and donor conferences, said HE Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani at the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.

In a speech, HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani noted that since 2013, Qatar has been supporting Syrian refugees through various initiatives. In 2013, Qatar donated to UNHCR. From 2013 to 2014, Qatar donated more than $121 million for refugees located in Turkey and Jordan. Qatar also launched Educate A Child (EAC), an initiative that succeeded in securing the return of 600,000 Syrian children to schools.

Finally, he stated that Qatar is now hosting more than 60,000 of brethren Syrians living along with Qatari brothers and 7000 Syrians were reunited with their families residing in Qatar.
